The department is planning to start a
couple of new courses on Dalits, Gender sensitisation and Marginalised section.
These new courses will open new vistas and opportunities for professional attainment
that are aimed to engage arid involve the students of sociology department in
the process of social reconstruction in the region. Efforts are also on to seek
a special status for the department from the University Grants Commission under
its DAS programme. With these plans in the mind, the department of sociology is
confident of carving out a niche for itself in the arena of academics.
