We
have the proud privilege of setting up a Department of Library and Information
Science under self financial scheme. An adhoc Board of Studies was constituted
to frame Rules, Regulations and Syllabi for opening the Department. Prof. Sabhajeet
Mishra, the then Pro-Vice Chancellor acted as Chairman, Prof. A. K. Mittal, the
then Dean, and Faculty of Arts as Member, Dr. J. L. Upadhyay, University Librarian
Member, Prof. Y. P. Dubey, BHU and Late Prof. Nurul Hasan as Experts. Committee
met on 26-6-2002 and recommended the guidelines etc. for the Department of Library
& Information Science. Other requirements were met subsequently.
It
was proposed that the academic programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of
Library & Information Science (B.L.I.Sc.), Master of Library & Information
Science (M.L.I.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy should be conducted in the Department
of Library & Information Science. Department shall be one of the Departments
under the Faculty of Arts.
Total intake for B.L.I.Sc. is 40 and total intake
for M.L.I.Sc. is 20.
Bachelor of Library & Information Science was
started in academic session 2002-03. Master of Library & Information Science
was started in academic session 2003-04.
Students of Library & Information
Science visited National Library of India, Jadavpur University, Calcutta University,
and Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Indian Association for the Cultivation
of Science, Indian Museum Kolkata, Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri and
BHU, Varanasi on a week long education Tour.
