In the residential section of law faculty
of the university there is only one law department. Sri Prasidh Narain Misra,
the founder, head of the department served it from 1958-560. After him Dr. R.C.
Hingorani, Prof. R.B.Tiwari, Prof. S.P.Sharma, Prof. Udairaj Rai, Prof. O.P. Tiwari
successively graced the chair. At present Prof. Anirudh Prasad is the Head of
the Department.
Before the advent of Prof. R.B.Tiwari classes at graduate
level were run, Prof. R.B. Tiwari started L.L.M. classes from 1963-64. After a
few years classes for one year diploma course in labour law was started. Later
on three year L.L.B. course of bar Council of India was started from 1968-69.
The Bar Council of India made three year L.L.B. course compulsory all over India,
in which 28 subjects had to be studied in three years. Semester system was also
made compulsory. The law department of Gorakhpur University has been complying
with all the directives of the Bar Council.
From 1973-74, Law Classes are
run in the present Law faculty building, since then full time students are being
admitted in L.L.B. and L.L.M. classes. Every student is allowed four periods teaching
in addition to tutorial; every day thus opportunities for raising standard of
L.L.B. and L.L.M. classes were created.
