Rajarshi Tondon Open University in Gorakhpur University
U.P. Rajarshi Tondon Open University Allahabad was established under
ordinance November 10, 1999. Under distance education scheme, this Open University
is the first one of the state and the 10th one of the country. It has its reorganization
from U.G.C., distance education board and Indian universities association. The
aim of its establishment is to provide opportunity to people desirous of getting
higher education service, domestic ladies, social workers, and business men people
living at distance places.
For admission in this university age is no
bar, it needs no migration certificate. Admission rules are flexible. Generally
all desirous people get admission. Admitted students are provided with easy and
lucid materials regarding the course by the university. The students are given
assignments, which they present at study centre before the commencement of semester
examination and after evaluating it, the material is returned to them with necessary
remarks to remove their doubts. Exams are conducted in January and July according
to semester system. If an account of any reason the student does not appear at
1st semester system, he is allowed to take the exam of the left semester in the
second semester. Right to take examination of every course at anytime between
the scheduled minimum and maximum period is reserved. The evaluation system is
of three staged, self-evaluation, continuous evaluation and evaluation at the
end of the session.
Study centre at D.D.U. Gorakhpur University was set
up in the faculty of Arts by the above said university in August 2002. Facility
for admission and study in the following fields is available at this centre.
Arts, Commerce, Science, Tourism, Computer Application, Library and Information
and Science at graduate level and at arts subjects at post graduate level. P.G.

Within one year the following are the achievements
of U.P. Rajarshi Tondon Open University Study Centre at D.D.U. Gorakhpur University.

Number of students in 2003-2004 increased to 426 against 18 in 2002-2003.

In the memory of Rajarshi Purushottam Das a lecture was held on September 4,2003
at this study centre. Prof. Ram Krishna Mani Tripathi a Gandhism Thinker was the
Chief Speaker. The meeting was presided by Prof. Rewati Raman Pandey the Ex-Vice-Chancellor
of D.D.U. Gorakhpur.
