Board in Gorakhpur University
In the numerous process of his
development since his primitivison till the 21st century, man may accumulate materials
for physical pleasure but he must always be animated by innate tendencies of entertaining
himself with games and sports activities. In the era of complexities, games and
game-spirit are such undertakings as can bring the deranged mind of the man to
equilibrium.
Games and Sports and physical training are the must for all
round complete development of man. From these man gets direction for the development
of his personality with his behaviour of friendly rivalry. Sublimest feelings
grow in the youth by achieving excellence in games and sports and he plays a very
significant role in the development and evolution of the Nation.
The board
has been playing significant role in sharpening and refining the ability of the
scholars and in creating games and sports environment in the University campus
since its establishment. Sri. Nahar Deo of the University team won Bronze medal
in the All India Inter-University duel competition, in 2003-2004, while Sri. Santosh
Kumar Rai won a place for the University at National level by capturing the silver
medal in 2002-2003. Working as a host to the Eastern zone inter-university male
kabaddi competition in 2003-2004, the university team won silver medal. The selection
of Km. Bhawana Jaiswal for Basket Ball in 2000-2001 in the National Team and Km.
Jyoti Singh for Hand Ball (1999-2000) in National teams is a source of inspiration
for girl scholars of the university. The winning gold medal in Eastern zone inter-university
basket ball competition (Male) by the university team in 2000-2001 is a symbol
of the glorious story of games genius.
The sports board has come into existence
in 1957 from the very date of the establishment of the university. Prof. B.N.
Jha the then Vice-Chancellor of the university was the first patron of the parishad
and Prof. M. Verma decked the presidentship of the parishad. Under their supervision
the board got its basic form giving a wide scope to the fundamental plan chalked
out by Prof. Verma. The first president of the board was valorized by the 16 Ex-Presidents
of the board with their own skill and interest. Consequently the board as an honorable
department of the university is capable of guiding the athletes of the university.

Sanyal, Prof. B.G. Verma, Prof. A.P. Baijal, Prof. Maheshwar Misra, Prof. Radhey
Mohan Mishra, Prof. A.S. Narain, Prof. Ashok Kumar Srivastava, Prof. A.K. Pant,
Prof. Rajendra singh, Prof. J.N. Mishra, Prof. S.N. Gupta, Prof. C.B. Singh and
Sri. H.S. Bajpai, have worked as president of the parishad.
It is a matter of great pride that in the present session
21 teams of athletes selected for various games represented
the university in every nook and corner of the country in zonal
and All India inter-university competitions and won honour.
The annual Athletes meet was materialized on December 1-3. More
than 200 Athletes of the university and its affiliated colleges
glorified the occasion by exhibiting their ability. The present
position of the board to conduct successfully all remarkable
activities of games and sports is a below:
