The tuitional work in science faculty
was started in 1958 after the establishment of the Gorakhpur University in 1957.
In the beginning under this faculty tuitional work at graduate and P.G. graduate
level was started in the department of physics, chemistry, botany and zoology
and Maths department. At graduate level in defense studies classes in defense
at P.G. level were started in 1974. In the beginning the number of students in
different departments of the faculty at graduate and P.G. level was less. Presently
this number at graduate level is double (Biology group) four times (Maths Group)
and at P.G. level it is near by five times.
In the beginning all the
departments of this faculty were in Pant Bhawan. Afterwards Physics and Maths
department shifted to Majeethia Building. In the context of re-expansion of the
faculty separate labs for research work in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and also
separate building for Defense Studies were built. With the expansion of the buildings
the departments too were expanded. Tuitional work in Statistics under Maths department
was arranged. In continuation to this the following became an organ of tuitional
work. Statistics at graduate level in 1970 and at P.G. level in 1981; Electronics
at graduate level 1986 and at P.G. level in 1995; Computer Diploma in 1989 and
at graduate level in 1995; Industrial micro-biology and Industrial Chemistry at
graduate level in 1999 and Bio-Technology in 2000.
By exhibiting its greatest
zeal and activity, the science faculty has a special place at National and International
level in research and teaching field. Prof. R.C. Mahhrotra, Prof. Devendra Sharma,
Prof. R.S. Misra, Prof. R.P. Rastogi, Prof. K.S. Bhargawa, Prof. H.S. Chaudhary,
Prof. K.B. Lal, Major R.C. Kulshrestha, Prof. G.S. Shukla, Prof. N.K. Sanyal,
Prof. Hari Darshan Kumar, Prof. Krishna Swaroop, Prof. R.M. Misra, Prof. Maheshwar
Misra, Prof. H.D. Pandey and Prof. Kamleshwar Pandey etc., contributed greatly
to accelerate and to glorify the faculty in the field of higher education.
Nearly 1100 researchers have been awarded Ph.D. degree by the different departments
of the faculty and nearly 6200 research papers have been published in reputed
national and international research journals. Besides nearly more than 50 seminars
have been organized by the faculty. Teachers belonging to this faculty have been
invited by the Universities of America, Europe and Japan for higher studies, research
and lecture making.
Research projects have been aided to different departments
of the faculty for important research work by different national academics boards.
They are chiefly Science and Technology department, Science and Industrial board,
Atomic research institute, Bio-Technology, ISRO, UGC, Indian Agriculture Investigation
board, and Indian board of medical Science. Etc.
The students and researchers
of the faculty have been appointed at very significant and high posts in India
and abroad. They are Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, TIFR, Mumbai, and Zoological
survey of India, Botanical survey of India, Department of Science and Technology,
Indian Institute of Sciences, Indian Technological Institute, Department of Environment
etc. Besides selection of the students of this faculty in IAS, IFS, IES and Statistical
Service and Indian Army, and PCS, is a continuous process.
Dr. Meenakshi
Narain a product of this University had the honor of Chief woman Scientist in
America in 1999.
