Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and development. The largest number of Indian population depends on Agriculture. So the economic prosperity and development is direct connected with the development of agriculture. The fact is that it is agriculture that provides the people grains food to the industries, raw materials.

Therefore gradual development of agriculture is the greatest need to feed the growing population.

The eastern U.P. is a wide agricultural range, where population is dense enough, but a very major part of the possibilities of agricultural development has been materialized, tuitional work in agriculture is going on into Degree Colleges affiliated with the D.D.U. Gorakhpur University and they are National P.G. College Barhalganj Gorakhpur and B.R.D. P.G. College Deoria. Work of investigation in agricultural chemistry, plant pathology, hereditary, entomology, agronomy, agricultural economics etc. is in full swing under the joint guidance of the Chemistry department, Botany and Zoology department setup in the University campus and also the expert agriculturists.

Investigation in fundamental science in the faculty of science are essentially beneficial, the applied science of faculty of agriculture. Only then through harmonious cooperation of both sciences new prospects in applied science as agricultural Chemistry, Plant Pathology, Hereditary, growth and preservation of the plants, entomology etc, are highly probable. The university is making effort for it.
