-The 12th Annual Session of the National Congress for Defence Studies (NCDS)
and a National Conference on "Peace and Security in South Asia: Challenges
and Responses", under the chairmanship of Professor Rajendra Prasad, the
12th National President of NCDS, 17 to 19 October 1997. The Congress was inaugurated
by Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav, then Defence Minister, Government of India, and the
Conference was inaugurated by Ex-Foreign Secretary Mr. S. K. Singh with his Key

of the Department of Defence Studies, D.D.U. Gorakhpur
University conduct
weekly Saturday Seminar for the benefit of post-graduate and research students
on strategic and other issue of national, regional and international importance.
-Third UGC-sponsored Refresher Course for the University and College teachers
of Defence and Strategic Studies at the national level in the thrust area of "Science,
Technology and National Security: Challenges and Responses" under the coordinatorship
of Prof. Rajendra Prasad, from 25th August 2001to 4th September 2001 (three weeks).
The inaugural and valedictory lectures were given by Lt-Gen. S.K. Jain, Dy. DG,
EME, Army Headquaters and Padam Bhushan Dr. K. Santhanam, an eminent Indian scientist
and Presently Director, the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi.

-Department organized
a Faculty Lecture programme by Maj Gen M.C. Bhandari, AVSM & BAR on "Low
Intensity Conflict (LlC) in J & K and Its Implications for India's Security",
6th August 2002 .Vice-Chancellor Prof .R.R. Pandey presided and Professor Rajendra
Prasad and Dean Faculty of Science Professor K. Pandey participated as panelists.
-Fourth UGC-sponsored Refresher Course for college and university teachers
in the thrust area of "Science, technology and National Security: Challenges
and Options" December 2002.
-One-day National Symposium on "Human
Rights and National Security" on December 10, 2002 to commemorate the UN
Human Rights Day.
- Vth UGC-ASC Refresher Course on Issues and imperative
of Non traditional Security in south Asia from 11-31 Dec. 2003, under the
Coordination of Prof. Rajendra Prasad.
-Strategists and defence experts
like Gen. V.K. Kapur, Gen. D.B. Shekatkar, Brig. S.P. Sinha, Brig. B.K. Sharma,
Prof. P.K. Chaube, Prof. Harvir Sharma and Prof. Ramakant were the prominent visitors
to the Department of Defence Studies and delivered lectures and interacted with
the faculty and students.
